The Crianza stands out for its pleasant fruit, combined with light oxidation from the time it spent in barrel. The wine is a field blend of 95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano and 2% Garnacha, where the average age of the vines is 25 years. Grapes are hand-harvested, and the vineyards are farmed in a sustainable fashion, without the use of any systemic fungicides, herbacides or pesticides. It is aged for 24 months in American oak casks, during which time the wine is racked every six months by means of the traditional “barrel to barrel” method. It is then bottled unfiltered and allowed to age for at least 18 months before release. This wine could now classify as a Reserva because of the further ageing in bottle, but the winery chose instead to classify it as a Crianza.
The colour is cherry-red, with a slightly orange rim. On the nose, there are intense aromas of ripe fruit, with hints of vanilla and toasted wood, with cherry jam in the background. On the palate, the wine has luscious sweet red fruit flavours, tobacco and spice, with fine grained tannins and a long, silky finish. This is ready to drink.
"I loved the textbook 2012 Señorío de P. Peciña Crianza, which has the usual house blend of Tempranillo with 3% Garnacha and 2% Graciano; it was fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in used American oak barrels for some 24 months with hand racking every six months. It has a great balance between age and youth, modernity and tradition, fruit and spice, balsam and freshness. The palate feels polished, with resolved tannins and very god balance.
